In April of 2018, AGV revolutionized the motorcycle helmet market with the debut of its then all-new Sportmodular lid — an ultra-protective yet incredibly lightweight 3.2-pound brain bucket that represented the world’s first all-carbon fiber modular helmet. After several more years of development, the Dainese-owned outfit is now pushing the envelope in the moto helmet space once again with the release of the all-new AGV Tourmodular Helmet.
While sporting a similar silhouette and shape to the Sportmodular, the new Tourmodular features an all-new shell design that sees the Sportmodular’s all-carbon construction jettisoned in favor of a layered structure using carbon fiber, aramid, and fiberglass. Produced in three sizes, the shell sits over a five-density EPS liner and boasts four adjustable air vents and a wildly-impressive dynamic weight of zero even at speeds of up to 80mph. Even with its chin-bar flipped up, the Tourmodular also manages to exceed ECE 2206 homologation standards.
The helmet’s interior features washable and removable cheek pads and a plush liner made from a combination of Microsense comfort skin, water-repellent synthetic leather, Ritmo, and Shalimar fabrics — the latter two of which are materials that can absorb moisture and sweat. The Tourmodular also gets AGV’s all-new micro-ratcheting opening system, a drop-down sun visor, and a 4mm-thick optical class 1 face shield with AGV’s flagship Corsa/Pista model’s metal visor mechanisms and locking system. Alongside the helmet itself, AGV has also partnered with leading comm systems brand Cardo to deliver an optional fully-integrated communication system known as the AGV INSYDE intercom — a state-of-the-art DMC MESH unit that can support comms between up to 15 riders over a distance of up to 3.7 miles.
Offered in sizes XS through XXL, the AGV Tourmodular Helmet is available now in nine different solid color options for $600 — though additional graphics versions will be available for $700 starting later this fall. The AGV INSYDE communication system will be sold separately for $330, also starting in the fall.
